Haridwar is one of the biggest tourists spots and has always the favourite amongst the list of places to see before one dies. It has always been bursting with tourists the whole year and has always seen it's best during the festivals where the devotes sit in a row chanting all kinds of hymns and lighting lamps. People have always heard the world or books say in order to experience the true essence of the place, people will have to spend a few days wandering around every street of the city.
The town sits on the banks of the Ganges and is one of the cities in the state of Uttarakand and has always been looked at as one of the most religious places in India. In English, Haridwar is called the "Gateway to God". It has opened its gates to the 4 religious pilgrims that include the Gangotri, Yamunotri, Badrinath and Kedarnath. The town has a great historical and mythological story and has always been mentioned in a lot of the Hindu scriptures.
There is a place in Haridwar called Hari - ki -pairi. It is one of the central points of the town and has always had faith in the myth that says a drop of nectar fell when the oceans were churning by the Gods and the Devils that led to the beginning of the world. Taking a dip in the holy waters of the Ganges has said to give man his salvation. Each city or town has it a mythological significance behind it. The city of Ajmer has a temple made in honour of a God who was cursed by his wife. Most cities or towns have haunted houses in the middle of no where and have often believed that there a few ghosts that stay there. The fashion for a lot of these hill stations or religious places has always been a simple salwar kameez and kurtas. Every rarely has any tourists seen women wearing Kanchipuram sarees or a ghagra choli.
Men on the other hand are often seen wearing a dhoti whilst taking a dip in the water. Depending on the climate, fashion changes and becomes a lot more elegant and stylish. A place like Shimla has it’s own charm and is always often to trekkers. It is one of the most stunning and gorgeous towns that include undulating terrains and a number of hills.
